For our first global team meeting in virtual reality, we coordinated a time that worked for everyone via WhatsApp. This was already quite a challenge due to the time zone differences and everyone’s busy schedules.
On the day of the meeting, we gathered directly in the VR room prepared for us and started chatting. I really appreciated how VR enabled us to communicate seamlessly with people who are so far away. When a student from Georgia said that they had just woken up, I was confused for a moment because I even forgot about the time difference for a second due to the flawless experience.

I really enjoyed the fact that I felt like I was in a room with the other participants without any distractions from the real world, even though I was just sitting at home. It also gave me a sense of presence and immersion that regular video calls usually lack. The ability to use gestures and look around the virtual space made the interaction feel more natural and engaging.
We could communicate easily, but one person was muted for the first half of the meeting and had to try to fix it. Despite that and a few other minor technical issues, the group managed to stay focused and accomplish the main objectives of the session.
All in all, it was an exciting meeting, and now we’re looking forward to project week, when we will finally get to meet each other in person.
